Spread of Cricket in other countries and the Second World War
The game of Cricket spread across the West Indies, India & New Zealand as they received their International Cricket status by the end of 1920s and the start of 1930s. West Indies played it's first Test match in 1939.
Cricket was once again halted due to the 2nd World War. Surprisingly, India was least impacted as they continued with their domestic Cricket. New Zealand also wasn't impacted until 1945/46.
English Cricketer Hedly Verity died at the battlefield in Italy serving the Great Britain in the war.
The second World War had a major impact on Don Bradman's career as he no longer was as consistent as he was before the war. More so due to his age. He somehow made enough runs to trouble his oppositions. In his last Test match in 1948 at The Oval he needed just 4 runs to have a career batting average of exactly a 100 (a feat almost impossible to achieve in current period). But unfortunately he got out without scoring being bowled to leg-spinner Erric Hollies. Bradman retired with a career-average of 99.94. Neverthless, Bradman retired as not only the greatest player for Australia but the greatest player in the world for the ages to come.
